Jiakai, known as JK, is a multi-talented and award-winning visual storyteller based in Zhejiang, China.

JK was born and raised in Zhejiang. He decided to explore the American West after high school and started his journey at the University of Montana.

JK has planted his roots in the mountains since a young age. He was first inspired to pursue documentary filmmaking when he went to his first Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour in Missoula, Montana. With a background in journalism, JK primarily focuses on documentary filmmaking and photography as well as producing branded non-fiction content, capturing real stories with a dynamic cinematic style.

He immerses himself completely in his work, not only capturing amazing places, but throwing himself into intense conditions. He’s lived with cattle ranchers in brutally frigid winter, followed Iraqi special force fighting against ISIS at the front line, dined with indigenous people in the rainforest, skied in remote backcountry in the Northern Rocky Mountains.

JK’s first short documentary 32 Below, which takes an intimate look into a calving season during one of harshest winters on record, won 1st place of Hearst Journalism Award and was selected by Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. His latest branded short film series “Grizzlies in the Wild” led the University of Montana to great marketing success.

After 5 years of learning and exploring in the U.S., JK moved back to his hometown in the midst of a global pandemic. He wants to inspire minds in where he’s originally rooted. He is available for collaboration and assignments.
